The Importance of Business Continuity Planning

The possibility that a disaster will strike your organization is very real.
A disaster is any event that causes any of the organization's vital
business functions to fail.  Some examples:

  • Fire breaks out on the top floor of a facility that houses vital
business functions. Several lower floors are damaged by
smoke and water. Most of the furnishings, equipment, supplies,
and records located in these areas are destroyed. One
hundred people who perform vital business processes are
unable to work in the area.

  • A critical component of a major computer system fails. The loss
of the system affects several vital business functions that
depend upon the system, and their ability to operate effectively
    deteriorates rapidly.

  • A work force labor action at a facility that houses vital business
operations prevents the organization's employees from
    performing their jobs.

It isn't possible to prevent all disasters, but your organization must be
able to recover quickly, effectively, and without wasting time and
money when disaster does strike. Our software products,

RecoveryPAC
,  RecoveryPAC Web and RiskPAC are the tools that
you need to help your organization manage its recovery of vital
business processes following a disaster of any magnitude, measure
the impact of the loss of these business processes and identify as
well as help mitigate the risks faced by your organization.

Business continuity planning is the process of developing and
maintaining plans to minimize the impact of the loss of the
organization's vital business functions due to a disaster.
Comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date business recovery plans
ensure your organization's future. CPACS
 RecoveryPAC and
RecoveryPAC Web software products are exactly the planning tools
that your organization needs to accomplish its business recovery
planning objectives. You can develop enterprise-wide emergency
response and business continuity plans or single department plans.
Your plans can be for specific locations or include all of the
organization's facilities.  Plans can be developed for specific
business processes or all of organization's business processes. You
can also develop business recovery plans by phases, if you prefer
that methodology. You determine the structure and scope of your
plans using the products' unique Recovery Planner module.

RecoveryPAC and RecoveryPAC Web are extremely easy to use,
provide the best response time for your planners, can be customized
to meet your organization's requirements, and will give you the ability
to restrict access to confidential information and protect the integrity
of your plans.

CPACS now offers three versions of Windows-based business
continuity planning software -
RecoveryPAC (Full), RecoveryPAC
Lite (Lite)
formerly RecoveryPAC II) and RecoveryPAC Small
Business Edition (SBE) - to provide a scalable product line that
addresses the needs of different size organizations. The product line
is designed to provide for a natural migration path as your
organization's business continuity planning requirements grow.  The
Full, Lite and SBE versions utilize a common user interface, and all
plans are fully upward compatible (SBE to Lite to Full). There is no
learning curve or conversion process when migrating to a higher
product level.

Sound Business Continuity Management programs begin with
comprehensive
risk assessment and Business Impact Analysis
(BIA)
projects.  Our RiskPAC risk assessment and BIA software has
been created to go well beyond traditional BIA software capabilities
to provide the information needed to effectively identify, measure and
manage the risks your organization faces.  The measurement of the
impact a disruption of key business functions and computer
applications could have on your organization is important.  However,
a comprehensive risk prevention program will also include the
identification of risks and the formulation of controls that can be used
to mitigate or eliminate those risks.   A complete risk assessment
and management program can very well prevent, or at least reduce
the chance that a risk will escalate into a disruption or disaster.
It is
far better to prevent disasters to the extent possible than it is to
execute a brilliant recovery from a disaster that could have been
prevented.

Recent government mandates such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the
Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) and others have further solidified the
requirement for organizations to have viable continuity planning, BIA
and risk management programs in place.  Our RecoveryPAC,
RecoveryPAC Web and RiskPAC software products can assist
organizations in the assessment of their current risk exposures and
information security programs, as well as the implementation of
business continuity plans as it relates to compliance with the
regulations incorporated into these Acts.
